25 Shows Other Than The Office to Binge Watch

25 Shows Other Than The Office to Binge Watch

Are you stuck at home and looking for some new shows to binge on your favorite streaming services? We've got you covered. But this list probably isn't what you would expect.

Yes, we all love The Office, Parks & Rec, Grey's Anatomy, and Friends, but we want to share some different ideas to jazz up your "Recently Watched" list on Netflix.

These shows are some of our favorites that AREN'T "basic" from our Simple & Sentimental staff.

Taylor's Favorite Shows To Binge

You'll notice each show on my list is a TV comedy series! I watch other genres too, but these are my go-to's. They're easy to watch, and I actually like watching some of them better the second time around because I notice new things about them. Enjoy!

-Taylor

Arrested Development

arrested development

I absolutely LOVE Arrested Development and sometimes feel like it's underrated. My favorite seasons are the ones before Netflix takes over.

If you like The Office, Parks & Rec, and other similar funny shows, you'll enjoy Arrested Development. It takes a few episodes to really get into it, but once you do you won't stop laughing. You can watch all 5 seasons on Netflix.

Schitt's Creek

schitt's creek

Schitt's Creek has recently become popular since it was added to Netflix. It's another funny show but I think it has one of the better story lines of any comedy series that have come out in the last 5 years.

It's currently on its last season that airs on Pop TV (you can watch on Hulu the next day), or you can binge the first 4 seasons on Netflix.

Community

Community

I watched the first 4 seasons of Community on Hulu and loved it! It's another comedy series (do you see a trend here?). Its episodes can often stand on their own with their strange but hilariously overdone plots.

I honestly quit watching after season 4 because two characters left and I felt it wasn't as good once they left, but the first 4 seasons are great!

Superstore

Superstore

Superstore is another funny comedy series I love, and they're still making new episodes! You can watch it all on Hulu.

Brooklyn 99

Yep, all 5 of my suggestions are comedy series. Sorry not sorry! They're so easy to watch and they make me laugh. I love Brooklyn 99. It's about a police precinct in New York City, and also has a great storyline. The show does a great job of showing the characters develop over time too. It's a win win.

You can watch it all on Hulu!

    Paige's Favorite Shows

I enjoy a wide variety of shows, but for the most part I end up watching either a comedy like the Office or some kind of crime or investigative show. I have always loved a good mystery and trying to solve it before the reveal at the end. So I really appreciate shows that keep me guessing and that I cannot predict.

    -Paige

    Flint Town Documentary

Paige's husband is a police officer, and it's no surprise they have watched this docu-series twice together.

The documentary follows the police department in Flint, Michigan as they struggle with dwindling resources and crumbling infrastructure in a community crippled by violence and a contaminated water crisis (IMBD).

    Iliza Shlesinger: Unveiled

In her 5th stand up special on Netflix, Iliza discusses marriage and its traditions (IMBD). Watch all of her hilarious comedy on Netflix!

    Imposters

Imposters is a dark comedy that focuses on a female con artist who marries people and then disappears with their money (IMBD).

    Watch on prime video!

How To Get Away With Murder

How to Get Away With Murder  follows a group of ambitious law students and their brilliant criminal defense professor. They become involved in a twisted murder plot that promises to change the course of their lives (IMBD).

If you like a show with unexpected twists and an entertaining connection between characters, this is it!

    Watch it on Netflix!

    The Stranger

The Stranger follows the lives of suburban families whose secrets and lies are made public by the appearance of a stranger (IMBD).

If you like a show that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this is it! As you watch, you see the impact of people keeping secrets and learn more about how the different people in the show are connected.

    Nina's Favorites

I typically like documentaries and shows that really make you think (don't get me wrong, I love The Office too!). It makes me feel better to binge shows that my brain is working to connect the dots.

All of these shows require you to really pay attention to the dialogue and what is going on in the background to fully grasp what is going on!

Warning: Making a Murderer and The Staircase have cliffhanger endings that may or may not make you want to throw your TV out of a window! Happy watching!!

    -Nina

    Making a Murderer

Making A Murderer was filmed over a 10-year period, Steven Avery, a DNA exoneree who, while in the midst of exposing corruption in local law enforcement, finds himself the prime suspect in a grisly new crime (IMBD).

The documentary shows how personal bias can get in the way of making personal decisions.

    The Staircase

The Staircase is another documentary that shows how the justice system can be abused. It follows the high-profile murder trial of American novelist Michael Peterson following the death of his wife in 2001 (IMBD).

    Watch it on Netflix!

    Mad Men

HA drama about one of New York's most prestigious ad agencies at the beginning of the 1960s, focusing on one of the firm's most mysterious but extremely talented ad executives, Donald Draper (IMBD).

If you are interested in marketing or historical fiction, this is a great show for you. Mad Men follows the start of marketing to the consumer as we know it today.

    Watch it on Netflix!

    Handmaid's Tale

The Handmaid's Tale is set in a dystopian future, a woman is forced to live as a concubine under a fundamentalist theocratic dictatorship (IMBD).

    Watch it on Hulu!

    Criminal Minds

Criminal Minds follows the story of the FBI's behavioral analysis unit, but each episode shows a unique crime. It's great for binge watching because each episode is different, with the exception of a few.

      Watch it on Netflix!

      Nick's Picks

I really enjoy shows packed with action, or comedies. I love when a show has both  action and comedy. Most of my picks are action oriented with a little bit of comedy.

      -Nick

      Dexter

By day, mild-mannered Dexter is a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. But at night, he is a serial killer who only targets other murderers.

      SNL

Saturday Night Live is a live sketch comedy series. Recent episodes haven't been the best, older seasons are hilarious!

Watch it on Hulu, or watch individual sketches on YouTube!

      Santa Clarita Diet

In Santa Clarita Diet, Sheila and Joel are married real estate agents in Santa Clarita, California. When Sheila dies, their lives take a dark turn.

The show has 3 seasons and an abrupt end after the series is cancelled, but the first 3 seasons are hilarious and action packed.

      The Blacklist

In The Blacklist a new FBI profiler, Elizabeth Keen, has her entire life uprooted when a mysterious criminal, Raymond Reddington, who has eluded capture for decades, turns himself in and insists on speaking only to her (IMBD).

This is definitely one of my favorite shows. It's got a lot of action and the characters are witty.

        Sarah's Top Picks

I'm a sucker for British period pieces, especially PBS Masterpiece shows. I like the longer episodes with in-depth characters and storylines. Every once in a while, when I need a good laugh, I enjoy quirky comedies filled with puns, nerdy references, and light-hearted crime solving.

        -Sarah

        Psych

In Pysch, a novice sleuth is hired by the Police after he cons them into thinking he has psychic powers which help solve crimes. With the assistance of his reluctant best friend, the duo take on a series of complicated cases (IMBD).

You can watch the whole show on Prime!
