The First 5 Things To Do When You Get Engaged

the first 5 things to do when you get engaged

Did you just get engaged?! First off, CONGRATS! 🎉 This is so exciting, and we are so happy for you and your future spouse! Now it's time to start wedding planning.

But now what? Where do you even begin planning your wedding day? We've got 5 tips to get started.

1. Enjoy the moment

You just got engaged, enjoy it! Don't feel like you have to start wedding planning right away, because you don't. Spend a week or so enjoying this new season of your life, soak it all in. Go on a date with your fiancé and just talk to them.

The sooner you jump into wedding planning, the sooner you are going to get tired of it. This is especially important if you have are planning on being engaged for a year or more!

2. Insure your ring

Add your new bling to your home owners' insurance plan, or find an independent insurer if you don't have home owners' insurance.

If your ring is lost or stolen, you'll be able to get it replaced without cost to you.

3. Discuss a timeframe

How long will your engagement last? Is there a certain time of year that you would like to get married?

Chat with your future spouse about selecting a month or even a specific date for your wedding. This will determine how quickly you need to move through the wedding planning process and creates framework for your engagement timeline.

4. Talk budget

This is often the most daunting and stressful parts of wedding planning. Rather than avoiding it, get it out of the way early. It'll save you awkward conversations and difficult decisions later.

For example, if you don't have a budget set and you start planning your wedding, you could fall in love with a certain venue or dress only to find out that you can't afford it.

Make sure you and your fiancé are on the same page from the beginning so there are no surprises later!

5. What's your wedding vision?

Think about what you and your fiancé want out of your wedding day before asking friends and family for opinions. It is your wedding day, not theirs!

How do you want to remember your wedding day? What are some important traditions or aspects that you have to have, and some that you don't want to do?

To make this process easier, we made a wedding vision worksheet just for you and your partner! Print it out or work on it from your laptop, and go through the questions with your partner.
